This is my personality walk, i choose to do an over exaggerated tough guy walk.

Final personality walk plan

I then started to do the planing of my final personality walk, I drew the key poses of two personality walks this will help guide me while animating. one was a tough guy walk and the other was a lady with a handbag walk. I looked at body movement the upper body, the torso, the leg spacing, how far the leg stretches how wide or small the strides are. what the head is doing whilst moving, how the arms are moving in coordination with the feet and body.

personality walks

I recorded different walks with different personalities.

101 dalmatians

I was about to start doing a walk cycle with more personality so i had a look at Disneys 101 dalmatians in the beginning of the movie it show us different various walks and how they are unique in character.

second walk cycle

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQG6TZeOw0I

I then did my second walk cycle based on my recent diagram using two plane lines to guide me. drew my legs with different line thickness. looking at where the weight is applied and how long the stride of the walk is. I felt this walk cycle made me understand how the walk mechanics really work.

My next walk cycle diagram

I drew a diagram showing the full process of a walk cycle braking every step down for me. I used two solid planes to guide me using the head levels and foot levels. because of the complexity of a walk i used colours to help me identify the two legs and arms that way i dont get confused with which legs or arms comes first. I was then ready to do another walk cycle.

walk cycle drawing

looking at richard williams book on walk cycle i started drawing key poses that makes a walk cycle. From drawing these poses it allowed me to understand the spacing and the leg mechanics.

First walk cycle animation

first i tried to make observational drawings based on my video reference alone but it turned out that i still didn't quite understand the walk mechanics.

I then attempted my first walk cycle animation based on my video reference, it also turned out that the walk mechanics is not really understood and precise.

pixar 'Up'

Then i started looking at videos and animations that shows people walking or had references to walking.
one animation was pixar 'Up' in this scene it has an old man and a young fat boy walking through the jungle.

Slowed down basic walk

I then took the basic walk video and slowed it down this gave me a break down of the cycle our body takes as we are walking.

A basic walk

I asked a member of my family to demonstrate what is a normal walk. Looking at his arm movement and feet movement there is a pattern and rhythm in our walk and if i can understand that pattern the better my walk will be.
